Road Trip || Counting the Cost

We rely on the gift of the Holy Spirit to lead us on new adventures! But before we jump into a life with Christ, we must first count the cost.
Jesus says in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." 
Following Christ will require sacrifice, but the good news is Jesus is not looking to trade with you, he is looking to bless you. 
What has Jesus asked you to surrender? 
 

Road Trip || The Direction of Your Life

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart' do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you what path to take". 
 
Our mindset determines the direction of our life. To get the most out of this life, we should adopt a "Need to Know" mindset, an "Above the Line" mindset, a trusting mindset, and a patient mindset. We should be prepared to wait for God's guidance when things don't move as fast or in the way we desire.

Grace || Reveal

What do we do about things that we don't fully understand? One of the big question marks in our faiths is GRACE! What truly is grace? How does God display it and how can we operate through grace? 
In today's message, we hear how to live out our faith in view of others, revealing God's grace. 

Grace || Respond

"...and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus". Romans 3:24 NIV
 
Our church provides a Fall Family day for the community. They provided rides, corn maze, games, lunch, prizes, candy, and more. In order to bless in love, we charged nothing for the community.
 
We made it clear that it was free.
 
A new attendee was skeptical and told the Pastor he was waiting for the bait and switch. He found none. Everything was, indeed, free so he offered to make a donation to the church.
 
Some people will not accept Jesus’ selfless sacrifice and grace on their behalf.
 
Although it sounds humble to say “I can’t accept God’s gift,” we should remember it wasn’t “free.” It cost Him His Son. But when we admit we need a Savior and redemption, we can be assured the price was fully paid.

Grace || Receive

“But He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD and HAUGHTY, BUT [continually] GIVES [the gift of] GRACE TO THE HUMBLE [who turn away from self-righteousness].” - James 4:6 Amplified Bible
 
I like how the Amplified brings out the richness of this passage, but notice how the Holy Spirit is the source for how grace provides us the power to overcome sin and live a life of obedience.
 
When you think you can overcome sin and live a life of obedience without grace, notice two things here:
1. God opposes you (why?)
2. Because he sees it as being proud and haughty.
 
So turn away from self-righteousness, humble yourself, and watch how God’s gift of grace will supernaturally enable you to break sins' power and live a life that’s pleasing to Him!
